Five Proposed March Reads (for now)

Ok so I was already to announce my projected March reads on Tuesday and they looked like this…. The proposed reads included two books from my bookshelves Black Wind by Clive Cussler and Outwitting Trolls by William G Tapply. Cussler was included because his recent passing reminded me of how much I used to like his books and Tapply because I was reminded about his books after a post I wrote the other day. Then  I received notice that one of the books I had requested from the library had become available. The book was The Big Lie the latest…

A Hopeful Running Reboot – Music by Tinsley Ellis

Ice Cream in Hell - Tinsley Ellis

The Run Ok so hopefully today may be the start of my running year. My daughter-in-law went into work at noon today and that gave me plenty of time to get a run in this morning. And since the temperature was in the mid-40s it was perfect. Now if my daughter in law can give me one day a week where she starts work at !1:00 or 12 maybe I could keep it up! The last  time I ran it was in the afternoon around dinner time and I ran a course that avoided crossing any major streets. The normal…

February Reads Take Me From San Diego to Sweden!

Here are my four February Reads. In the order that I liked them. The favorite on the top and the least favorite on the bottom. Basically I liked them all. Good Girl/Bad Girl – Michael Robotham Good Girl – Bad Girl is book one in a new series from one of my favorite authors Michael Robotham. It features forensic physiologist Cyrus Haven. Good story, better characters! It was the favorite among my February Reads. I hope to write a more comprehensive review soon. Saturday Playlist Part 1 – B. Scaggs, Lou Donaldson and Wes!

Lou Donaldson contribution to my Saturday Playlist

Ok so yesterday I did some reading and a lot of little things around the house. The soundtrack and ultimately a playlist for the day came from a variety of music, from a variety of musical media. Since there are six artists and twelve songs, I am dividing my Saturday playlist into two posts. Each post will feature three artists and sox songs on the playlist So let’s go!! Boz Scaggs – Moments  Moments – Amazon First came some music from an album that has been in my music library since the early 70s, Moments from Boz Scaggs. After he…

Four “Must-Read” Authors from My Reading Archives

Four Must-Rea authors from my Reaing Archives

The other day Bookstagramer thecrimebookshelf  asked about “auto-buy” authors. The bad thing about being an older reader is that many of your “auto-buy” or “must-read” authors have passed away. And while in the case of Robert Ludlum and Tony Hillerman their characters have lived on through other writers, fearing its not the same, I have avoided their books. Four Past “Must-Read” Authors The four writers picked are: Tony Hilerman  – Joe Leaphorn – Jim Chee   The Blessing Way – Leaphorn and Chee # 1 Amazon Tony Hillerman (1925-2008)  Through the years I tried to not miss one of his  Joe…

2020 Reading Update to Book 4 – Nick Pirog – 3:00 A.M.

Over the last week or so I ha e started several post. One was the start of a post about genealogy while another was about goals and my January reading. In the second post I was bemoaning the day fact that I had not read very much. At the time I had only read one book The Search for Splurt the second book in the Space Team series from Barry J Hutchinson. So I was one book behind the pace I need to maintain to reach my 2020 goal of 60 books read. An Update on My 2020 Reads I…

Book 1 of 2020 Barry J Hutchinson’s The Search for Splurt

The Search for Splurt - Barry J Hutchinson

So every once in a while I need to take a break from all the murder and mayhem that I read about. Sometimes that break is taken even while staying in the genre and I’ll read a book that’s part of a mystery series like a Stephanie Plum book from Janet Evanovich or one featuring Parnell Hall’s Stanley Hastings or Cora Fenton the Puzzle Lady. But the fist book of 2020 was an outer space adventure from Bruce J Hutchinson Space Team:The Search for Splurt. About The Search for Splurt The Search for Splurt is the third book in Barry…

The Chestnut Man Ends My 2019 Reading Year.

The Chestnut MAN

I have read  books by both Thor and Dorsey previously, more from Thor than Dorsey. In the early 2000s I read the first 7 books in Thor’s Scot Harvath series. Use of Force is book 17 in the series that now consists of 19 books. While I did enjoy the book, I thought it dragged in several places. I didn’t think it was a page turner which is what I always thought was typical for the first seven books. So while I may not search out another of  Thor’s books from the library, I do have at least one book The Apostle…

Torpedo Juice from Tim Dorsey is one Wild Rumpus!

Torpedo Juice (Serge A. Storms #7)  Tonight, I finished Torpedo Juice by Tim Dorsey it is the fifty-second (52) book I have read in 2019. And while I will finish well below the goal of 72 books read I set at the beginning of the year, I will have at the least read one book a week for 2019. Which I think is always a great accomplishment. Book 52 was Torpedo Juice book seven (7) in the Serge Storms series from Tim Dorsey. I reality wasn’t planning to read Torpedo Juice  at this time. In fact, I am in the…

November Reads – Part One – Providence Rag

Providence-Rag-Bruce-DeSilva205

After reading five books in October I only read three books in December. Reading fewer books over the last three months of the year has typical for most years since I began keeping track of what I read in the late 1980s. I think it’s a result of all four sports being played during those months. So I’m watching more sports instead of reading. Over the last few weeks my wife and I have been babysitting our grandchildren Zoe and Logan more often. Consequently, that cuts down on the free time I have to read. Anyway, the three books that…
