The Music Safari Finds New Blues from New Jersey Native John Ginty!!

So for the last several weeks the Safari has been tracking the blues man John Ginty. His name has been seen on the Roots Music Report’s Blues Charts but so far I have been unable to find his new album Bad New Travels. Last night as I reviewed the Blues Chart again, I saw that Ginty had shifted his position and now was located at Number 4 on the chart! Today in Music – Oct 28, 1937 – A Founder of the British Blues Movement – Graham Bond was born!!

So on this date in 1937 another one of those musicians whose name sounded familiar, but I was unsure why, Graham Bond was born. After reading the following at Wikipedia, I was even more unsure of why I didn’t recognize the name!! He certainly influenced the career paths of several musicians who I listened to and admired over the years, not the least of which, are Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. The joyous whoop that Sonny Terry naturally emitted between raucous harp blasts was as distinctive a signature sound as can possibly be imagined. Life’s Soundtrack – A Fast Run (for me!!) and great Blues from Chris Thomas King!

With the IQ test over and having done better than my wife anticipated, I now have my eyes set on my first 5K of the year, this Saturday in Delanco. Tonight was my second to the last workout before the race, and it turned out to be my best run of the late summer early fall! I tried to run short pickups throughout the run and a couple of times my pace dropped below 9 minutes per mile and was under 10 minute per mile pace through most of the run. This morning I was thinking about how reviewing the birthdays everyday has given me another avenue for discovering new artists, Over the last week, I have discovered Terry Gibbs, “Sweets” Edison, Dave Robinson and Mark Whitfield to name a few, which to me is pretty cool! As I was straightening sugar and flour in the baking aisle at Target tonight, the “jukebox in my head” started playing Steve Goodman’s “City of New Orléans” and I was singin’ along and hoping that I was singing softly enough, so that no one could hear me!! Life’s Soundtrack – Anders Osborne helps keep my Pace Up and the Effort Down with Peace!!

Well I proved tonight that Tuesday’s run was not just a result of having four days off!! I went into tonight’s run not expecting or really wanting to run as hard as I did on Tuesday! I had convinced myself that all I wanted to do was have a nice easy run. As I set out with those that thought in mind head and the music of Anders Osborne in my ears, I found myself holding a steady pace that was just under 10 minutes/mile and at times going down to 9:30 /mile.
