A Good Run – No Tunes – Some Reads and Music from Joanne Shaw Taylor!

So today was another nice day for a run. Initially, I thought, ok let’s go for like five miles, then I thought every time I have run three days in a week, after not having run three times in a week, and had my third run be longer, I’ve ended up hurt!  So as I started out today and felt pretty good I said, you know I’d rather run four and a quarter miles and feel good at the end, than run five and feel bad! So I went for the four and a quarter!  I ended up with my…

After the Vet, a good run – Soundtrack provided by Rick Estrin and the Nightcats!

So tonight after returning from the vet’s office, I really didn’t want to sit around, so I went for a run. Even though the weather was beautiful tonight, low 70s, no humidity, I contemplated not running because my legs were sore, but the earlier happenings helped to push me out the door! Before I started, I said to myself, don’t worry about how fast you run, in the words of Nike “Just Do It”. So the first mile was under 10 minutes per mile. ok, didn’t feel too bad, but we’ll see how it goes going up hill. Up Pancoast…

Yesterday’s Soundtrack and Morning Blues from Dani Wilde!

So yesterday afternoon, after hearing Marley’s Ghost cover Paul Siebel’s “She Makes Me Lose My Blues”, I went to the original and listened to some of Paul’s music. The first track was the same song, I think Paul was one of the first folkies to have that Western twang in his music! Then came some of the other favorites like “Then Came the Children”, “My Town” and two all time favorites “Louise” and “Long Afternoons”. If you’ve never heard these songs check them out!! After Siebel, I was looking through the playlists on the iPod  and came across an eleven…

Book 24 0f 2012 – Bleed for Me – Michael Robotham

One of my favorite characters in the Mystery-Thriller genre is psychologist Joe O’Loughlin, who springs from the pen computer mind of Australian author Michael Robotham. Book 24 of 2012 Bleed for Me is the fourth book in this series featuring Joe. On the cover of the book, Linwood Barclay sums up how I feel about Robotham’s work: Michael Robotham doesn’t just make me scared for his characters; he makes my heart ache for them. And in Bleed for Me my heartaches for all of them from Joe, his estranged wife Julienne, daughters Charlie and Emma and especially the focus of…

Book 23 0f 2012 – The Moses Expedition – Juan Gomez-Jurado

Book 23 of 2012, is on of the books that I picked up in Williamsburg several weeks ago, The Moses Expedition by Juan Gomez-Jurado.  From the book cover of the book: After fifty years in hiding, the Nazi war criminal known as the Butcher of Spiegelgrund has finally been found, and with him the candle covered filigree gold that was stolen from a Jewish family. But it isn’t the gold that Father Anthony Fowler,a C.I.A. operative and the Vatican’s secret service, is seeking. As he holds the flame to wax, the candle unveils the missing fragment of an ancient…

Book 22 of 2012 – The Last Kind Words – Tom Piccirilli

Book 22 0f 2012 is by Tom Piccirilli and it’s the first book I’ve read by this author and I can tell you it will not be the last!  The Last Kind Words   is a terrific book! But don’t just take my word for it here’s what some others think about the book: “Mystic River set the bar for classic literary mystery, and The Last Kind Words is a novel on the same superb playing field. Compassionate, fascinating, and with an adrenaline narrative that is as gripping as it is moving, this book is pure alchemy.” —KEN BRUEN  “The Last…

Life’s Soundtrack – Running with some new acoustic blues (to me) from Catfish Keith!

So if you’ve read the post from earlier this evening, you already know that tonight was a running night, what you don’t know is that it almost was a very short run! When I started out my left hamstring about mid way up the back of the thigh felt bad, not bad enough to stop just bad enough to notice and want to stop, and I almost did! Anyway, I just slowed down and it didn’t get any worse so I kept going. I finished the four mile run and the good thing was that the miles were progressively faster!…

Into the Night with Oli Brown – Here I Am!

So on the way to do some testing down on the Garden State Parkway this morning I listened to British Bluesman Oli Brown’s new album Here I Am and it’s pretty damn good, but then again it should be since it comes from a band that at the 2011 British Blues Music Awards won the following two awards: BEST BAND of the YEAR BEST ALBUM of the YEAR (Heads I Win Tails You Lose) The awards  go alongside his MALE VOCALIST and YOUNG ARTIST of the YEAR awards from 2010 Oli’s drummer, Wayne Proctor, won the BEST DRUMMER of the YEAR…
