So on Sunday as I was doing some errands before the Eagles game I listened to a couple of new blues albums the first was Jeff Strahan‘s latest Monkey Around and Five Finger Discount from Soulstack. Thoughts about Blind Willie Johnson’s “John the Revelator”……

So this morning when I was researching Greg Lake I was listening to his latest album Songs of a Lifetime. One of the songs was of course “From the Beginning” somehow during the search and listening I came across a version of the song from the band Glass Harp that appears on their album Glass Harp Strings Attached Live with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. Track seven on the album is a nice cover of the song “John the Revelator” Later in the morning I was looking for some new music on the Roots Music Report charts. “Into the Morning” with blues from Kara Grainger!

As I surfed around the Internet yesterday, I came across this great female blues artist! A native of Australia, Kara Grainger draws inspiration from the blues of America. On Shiver & Sigh, her third solo album, the guitarist and singer/songwriter also incorporates elements of rhythm and blues and soul music in the mix. I think Kara will have a place in my blues library! Let’s go “into the morning” watching her perform live!

The Music Safari Finds New Blues from New Jersey Native John Ginty!!

So for the last several weeks the Safari has been tracking the blues man John Ginty. His name has been seen on the Roots Music Report’s Blues Charts but so far I have been unable to find his new album Bad New Travels. Last night as I reviewed the Blues Chart again, I saw that Ginty had shifted his position and now was located at Number 4 on the chart! So on this date in 1937 another one of those musicians whose name sounded familiar, but I was unsure why, Graham Bond was born. After reading the following at Wikipedia, I was even more unsure of why I didn’t recognize the name!! He certainly influenced the career paths of several musicians who I listened to and admired over the years, not the least of which, are Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. The joyous whoop that Sonny Terry naturally emitted between raucous harp blasts was as distinctive a signature sound as can possibly be imagined.
