What You Never Knew – Jessica Hamilton

Would you return to a family-owned island 30 years after an event that ripped your family apart? In Jessica Hamilton’s new psychological thriller What You Never Knew, Jane Bennett did just that…. When she was a child, June Bennett‘s family spent their summers on Avril Island in Lake Champlain. The Island had been gift to Avril Bennett from her new husband. This family tradition ended tragically one night when June‘s father abruptly left his family. Now 30 years after that night, June discovers what she was told about her father‘s abrupt exit from their family may not have been the…

Finally a Post! Romeo’s Way Book 22 for 2021!

Ok so it may or may not be obvious but I am not having an easy time restarting posting to this blog. I have started countless posts only to not finish them. Frankly, I really don’t know why. Part of the reason may be that I am being overly self-critical. I keep telling myself no one cares or even likes what you write! Additionally, I think of  the vast quantity of blogs and say to myself, “why do you think anyone is going to visit your blog?”My answer is always the same – I don’t know”. Then I decide to…

The Boy from the Woods -Harlan Coben delivers again!

Ok so this blog is titled FreeWheelin’ Book and Music Safari and so far in 2021 I have not written about any books! The reason I haven’t written  about any of the book I’ve  been reading is that I’ve been writing about my 30-day folk music challenge. However, I have been reading, all be it at a slower pace than typical during the winter months. So far, I have finished three books. I finished The Boy From the Woods by Harlan Coben yesterday afternoon. It’s book number 3 for 2021. The  book is a stand alone novel and not part of…

February Reads Take Me From San Diego to Sweden!

Here are my four February Reads. In the order that I liked them. The favorite on the top and the least favorite on the bottom. Basically I liked them all. Good Girl/Bad Girl – Michael Robotham Good Girl – Bad Girl is book one in a new series from one of my favorite authors Michael Robotham. It features forensic physiologist Cyrus Haven. Four “Must-Read” Authors from My Reading Archives

Four Must-Rea authors from my Reaing Archives

The other day Bookstagramer thecrimebookshelf  asked about “auto-buy” authors. The bad thing about being an older reader is that many of your “auto-buy” or “must-read” authors have passed away. And while in the case of Robert Ludlum and Tony Hillerman their characters have lived on through other writers, fearing its not the same, I have avoided their books. Four Past “Must-Read” Authors The four writers picked are: Tony Hilerman  – Joe Leaphorn – Jim Chee   The Blessing Way – Leaphorn and Chee # 1 Amazon Tony Hillerman (1925-2008)  Through the years I tried to not miss one of his  Joe…

Four Reading Challenge Reads for the Rest of April

Four Reads for the Remainder of April……   In my post for The Blood Strand, I indicated that I have currently read 18 books on a goal of 60 books. So to stay on pace I only need to read two more books before the end of the month. That should be doable! Here are four books that I am currently reading or plan to read over the next few weeks     Exit West – Mohsin Hamid One of my individual Reading Challenges is to read the Literature Reading Challenge. This challenge is to move me a little out…

Four Great 2017 March Reads

Three Mysteries and a Historical Fiction Highlight My March Reads     In March, I mainly focused on exercise. I worked hard to increase the intensities of my workouts. In addition to adding more movement to my morning exercise routine, I added anywhere from five to fifteen minutes of dance to the beginning of the routine. I also continued to run. However, because of the weather and some other commitments, I ran less days in March than I did in February. The good news is that I lost five pounds!   The bad news is that I didn’t read as…

The Last Days of Night – Graham Moore

The Last Days of Night – Graham Moore   The Last Days of Night by Graham Moore is in the words of Gillian Flynn…. “Mesmerizing, clever, and absolutely crackling, The Last Days of Night is a triumph of imagination.  Graham Moore has chosen the Gilded Age of New York as his playground, with outstanding characters – Edison, Tesla, Westinghouse – as hi players. The result is a beautifully researched , endlessly entertaining novel that will leave you buzzing.” I confess that I have never read much about Thomas Edison. That’s probably not a good thing for a fellow New Jerseyian…
